Everything you need to know about Microblading and more…

What is Microblading???

Microblading, is also known by a variety of names such as Eyebrow Embroidery, Feather Touch, 3D Brows, etc.  It is a new semi-permanent technique, less invasive than cosmetic tattooing and lasting from 1-3 years depending on your skin type and skin care routine.

Whether you are looking for the perfect arch, full or feathered, your brows are of utmost importance as they frame your face and have the power to transform your features.

Microblading is a process of manually depositing color pigment superficially beneath the upper region of the skin using a hand-held tool pen with multiple micro needles which are single use, sterile and disposable.  It does not involve using a machine.  The results are an embroidery of small, etched, precise strokes that mimic the effect of real eyebrow hairs. This technique results in a natural, realistic and a contoured finish, creating a fuller symmetrical set of eyebrows.

Who should choose Microblading?

If you want to effortlessly look your best, with minimal upkeep and grooming, Microblading is for you!!!  This technique can dramatically correct or reconstruct sparse or missing eyebrows.  Clients suffering from Alopecia, Trichotillomania, Cancer, or those suffering from other diseases or disorders that have led to natural hair loss.  Another great feature of Microblading is if you are an active individual, or you spend time at the pool or beach, you don’t have to worry about those brows sweating/smearing off!!

Microblading is also for Men!!!

How long does the entire Microblading treatment take from start to finish?

Microblading consists of 2 appointments.  The initial appointment and the touch-up appointment.  Follow up appointments may be required to upkeep your beautifully contoured brows.

Initial Appointment – this appointment takes approx. 2 – 2.5 hours.  During the appointment, a consultation is completed.  The consultation begins with choosing the correct color pigment based on your skin tone.  We will then start the outline shape and style of your brows.  This is completed using various measuring devices to create evenly contoured, symmetrical eyebrows.  Once you are satisfied with the choices (color, shape, etc.), we begin the procedure.  A medical grade numbing cream is used during the procedure to limit discomfort during the appointment and to ensure you are as comfortable as possible.

4-6 Week Touch-Up Appointment – this appointment is equally important as is the initial appointment.  This appointment is scheduled between 4-6 weeks after the initial appointment.  This appointment can take between 1-1.5 hours.  As everyone heals differently and the outcomes can vary, this appointment allows the technician to see if certain areas may have irregularities in the pigment color, or if the pigment color needs adjusting, we look at brow thickness and if more strokes can be added.  If you have oily skin, you may require a darker shade during the touch-up session as oils can fade the pigment.  The Touch-up session is important as this is where we refine/adjust your brows to ensure they look perfect and retain their color.

 Is the procedure painful?

Every client is different and pain tolerance varies by client.  We take all the necessary precautions to ensure the procedure is as pain-free as possible. Prior to the procedure, the technician will apply a physician grade topical anesthetic to numb the area, and it is also re-applied during the process.  As everyone responds differently to anesthetics, it is quite possible you may feel some discomfort.  Clients have described the feeling of the procedure as some discomfort but tolerable and worth it!

How long is the healing process?

After your appointment, you do not need to hide from the world or take time off from work.  Most clients can go on about their normal day when they leave their appointment. The eyebrow area may be slightly red and somewhat swollen after the procedure, this will subside within a few hours.  The color will appear quite dark and sharper. This is normal and a part of the healing process.   The color will fade as it heals.  Having darker eyebrows initially may be harder for some clients than for others.  Clients who rarely wear makeup may find that they don’t like how their eyebrows appear during the first few days after the procedure because they appear to be so dark and sharp.  This is all normal!!  During the healing process, your eyebrows may begin to scab.  Do not pick the scabs as this may damage the skin and the Microblading area.  The eyebrows will lighten up in color as the healing process continues.  Many clients can leave the Studio and are ready to show off their beautiful new face.  Initially, the color is stronger but your new Embroidered brows will soften to a natural-looking, beautiful color in 7-10 days.  Once completely healed (usually after 4 weeks) the true color pigment will reveal itself.

 How long does Microblading last?

As Microblading is a semi-permanent procedure and pigments are not implanted into the skin as deep as traditional tattoos, the area will naturally fade over time.  Microblading can last between 1-3 years however touch-ups (color boosts) may be required in between.  There is no way for us to predict how long your brows will last or how they will heal with this procedure since so much of it depends on skin type and lifestyle.  The pigment can fade by UV rays, body chemistry, anti-aging products that are applied to the face, cellular turnover – rejuvenation, medications, aftercare, excess sweating/exercising, etc.  Again remembering we are working with the human body and many things can factor into how long Microblading may last.  Most clients require a ‘color boost’ periodically, however, some clients prefer a fresh and bright look and opt to come in for a color boost regularly instead of waiting for their brows to completely fade out.

What should I do to prepare for my Microblading appointment?

In order to achieve the best results, it is best to follow these pre-care instructions.

  • Avoid sun tanning, suntan beds, or a sunburned face so that the technician can assess your natural skin tone.
  • Avoid taking Aspirin, Niacin, or Ibuprofen 24 hours before your appointment time.
  • Avoid Vitamin E, B6, and other vitamins that contribute to thinning the blood one week prior to your appointment.  It is recommended that you resume these vitamins 72 hours after your procedure.
  • Avoid alcohol or caffeine 24 hours before the procedure.
  • Avoid facial scrubs/chemical peels two weeks prior to your appointment.
  • No waxing, threading, plucking or tinting of the eyebrows 3 days before.
  • Please note that you will be more sensitive during your menstrual cycle.
  • In order to achieve the best results, it is best to follow these pre-care instructions.

Complications and Risks?

We take every precaution for a safe procedure by using sterilized equipment, new disposable needles and we work in a sanitized environment.  Should clients follow our pre and post care instructions, there should be minimal risk or complications.  Although allergies and reactions to pigments are rare, it could be possible for certain individuals. We offer and suggest a pigment patch test for individuals who have high skin sensitivities or are sensitive to:

  • Topical makeup products
  • Gold, silver, nickel, stainless steel
  • Hair dyes

If you would like a patch test prior to the procedure, it is recommended that it be performed 7 days prior to your initial appointment.  An appointment will be necessary to complete the patch test.

What if I do not like it?

As with all cosmetic procedures, clients should put thought into their choices.  We recommend that clients do their research.  It is important to have a good understanding of the procedure, look at and compare different technicians work & portfolio’s and ensure your technician has all the appropriate licensing, registration and certifications.   We will do our best to shape your eyebrows to your liking and satisfaction prior to beginning the procedure. Every effort is made to achieve an even appearance but please realize our faces are asymmetrical.  We all have uneven appearances but they can be fixed during the touch-up session.  Pigment discoloration and color correction can also be revised. Microbladed brows will eventually fade away if no additional touch-ups are done. Choosing a technician who has completed a comprehensive course of instruction can minimize the risk of unwanted outcomes and client dissatisfaction.
